How does Botox® work?
Botox works by using a toxin to temporarily block nerve signals to muscles. This prevents the muscles from contracting, which can smooth wrinkles on the face and treat various medical conditions like neck spasms, excessive sweating, overactive bladder, and lazy eye. It’s also used to prevent migraines by blocking neurotransmitters that carry pain signals.
What to expect after recieving Botox?
- Immediate aftercare: It’s recommended to gently exercise your face, avoid touching the treated area, and refrain from lying down for about 4 hours post-treatment
- Activity: You can return to normal activities but should avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours.
- Alcohol and Medications: Avoid alcohol for 24 hours and consult your doctor about when to resume certain medications
- Side effects: Some people experience mild pain, tingling, redness, or swelling, which usually resolves quickly. A mild headache is possible but can be treated with pain relief
