Complete Oral Exam and New Patients
What is included in a Complete Oral Exam
A complete oral exam is a dental exam that is done at the first visit to a dental office and every few years afterward. It is a thorough assessment of your teeth, gums, and overall oral health. Our team at Academy Dental take you through our comprehensive examination which includes:
- A medical history review to check for any health conditions or medications that may affect your dental treatment or oral health.
- An examination of your head, neck, jaw, and mouth to look for any signs of inflammation, infection, cancer, or other problems.
- A charting of your teeth to record any missing, damaged, or decayed teeth, as well as any fillings, crowns, implants, or other dental work.
- A periodontal charting to measure the gum attachment and health for each tooth, and to detect any gum disease or bone loss.
- Dental x-rays to see the inside of your teeth and bones, and to find any cavities, fractures, or other issues that are not visible to the eye.
- Series of photos to monitor and document the condition of your mouth.
- An oral cancer screening to check for any abnormal or suspicious growths, lesions, or changes in your oral tissues.
- A diagnosis of any dental problems or concerns, and a discussion of your treatment options and recommendations.
- A referral to a specialist, such as an orthodontist, periodontist, endodontist, or oral surgeon, if needed.
- A home care regimen to help you maintain good oral hygiene and prevent future problems.
